Dr. Pralay Das’s journey in the realm of chemistry began with an innate curiosity and an exceptional academic record. He earned his B.Sc. in Chemistry (Hons) in 1998 from Malda College, affiliated with the University of North Bengal (NBU), West Bengal. Driven by a passion for organic chemistry, he pursued his M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry (2000) at the Department of Chemistry, University of North Bengal. His zeal for advanced research led him to enroll in a doctoral program at the same university, where he submitted his Ph.D. thesis in 2005 and was awarded the degree in 2006. His Ph.D. research laid the foundation for his future explorations in chemical technology and bioresource utilization.

His postdoctoral stint (2005-2007) at Umea University, Sweden, under the guidance of Prof. Fredrik Almqvist, honed his expertise in organic chemistry and process development. Upon returning to India, he joined Chembiotek, Division of TCG Lifesciences Ltd., Kolkata, as a Senior Research Scientist (2007-2008), where he worked on cutting-edge industrial research projects.

His association with the CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (CSIR-IHBT), Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, began in 2008 as a Scientist & Assistant Professor in the Natural Product Chemistry and Process Development Division. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, becoming a Senior Scientist (2012-2016), Principal Scientist & Head (2016-2021), and Senior Principal Scientist & Head (2021-present).
