Birendra Pratap Singh | Geology | Outstanding Scientist Award

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Birendra Pratap Singh | Geology | Outstanding Scientist Award

Panjab University | India

Dr. Birendra P. Singh, MISCS, FGSI, FPSI, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, specializing in paleontology and biostratigraphy. He holds advanced degrees in geology with top university honors and earned his doctorate in paleontology and biostratigraphy. With over two decades of research experience, his work focuses on Paleozoic paleontology and biostratigraphy of the Tethyan and Lesser Himalayan regions, Cambrian successions of Peninsular India, and the spatial and temporal distribution of ichnofabric and ichnofacies from Cambrian to Recent, with implications for Himalayan tectonics and paleoclimate. His academic career spans roles as lecturer, consultant, postdoctoral fellow, and faculty positions, culminating in his current Associate Professor role. Dr. Singh has contributed extensively to international research programs and served on academic, administrative, and governmental committees while guiding departmental activities at Panjab University. His scholarly output includes over 110 publications, cited 977 times with an h-index of 19 and an i10-index of 40, reflecting his influence in paleontology and earth sciences. Recognized with awards such as the Sepkoski Award, Tethys Fossil Award, and multiple gold medals, he is an elected fellow of leading geological and paleontological societies. Dr. Singh continues to advance geological research, education, and policy, significantly contributing to the understanding of Earth’s evolutionary history.
