Dhanraj B. Shinde’s academic journey is a testament to his unwavering dedication to science. He embarked on this path with a Bachelor of Science degree from Mahatma Gandhi College, Ahmedpur, under Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded, Maharashtra, India, in 2004. His fascination with chemistry led him to pursue a Master of Science degree at Yeshwant College, Department of Chemistry, completing his M.Sc. in May 2006. The cornerstone of his academic achievements was the completion of his Ph.D. at the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) in the Division of Physical and Materials Chemistry, University of Pune, India. Under the guidance of Dr. K. Vijayamohanan from IISER Tirupati, he completed his thesis titled “Electrochemical Synthesis and Functionalization of Carbon-based Nanomaterials” in 2013.

Dr. Shinde’s professional career is marked by significant roles in prestigious institutions globally. He started as a Junior Research Fellow and later became a Senior Research Fellow at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi. His postdoctoral research took him to Monash University, Australia, where he contributed to high-quality graphene manufacturing and large-area graphene oxide membranes for water desalination from December 2013 to 2016.At New Mexico State University, USA, from November 2016 to 2020, Dr. Shinde’s work on large-area single-crystalline graphene production using atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition was groundbreaking. His expertise also extended to the development of proton conductive membranes for microbial fuel cells and redox flow batteries.Currently, Dr. Shinde is a Ramalingaswami Fellow and Assistant Professor at the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) in Pune, India. His ongoing project focuses on high-power density microbial fuel cells, aiming to convert waste into electricity and chemicals. His efforts in developing cost-effective microbial fuel cells were recognized with an Australian Alumni Research Grant in 2022.
