Dr. B.K. Chakrabarti is a distinguished geoscientist associated with the Geological Survey of India who devoted more than three decades to the study of Himalayan tectonics and structural geology, rising to the position of Director before retirement. He has authored over forty peer-reviewed research articles and several books, contributing substantially to the field, with a Scopus record listing numerous documents, citations, and an h-index that reflects the global recognition of his work. His academic foundation was laid through rigorous geological training and research fellowships, where he worked extensively on the Precambrian terrains of Singhbhum and the mica belt, before advancing into Himalayan studies. Over the years, he successfully led key survey programs, coordinated scientific teams, and undertook editorial responsibilities for major geological monographs and mineralogical volumes. His core research interests include Himalayan tectonics, subduction processes, orogenic evolution, and back-thrust mechanics in mountain belts, which have significantly influenced the understanding of the Indian subcontinent’s geological framework.
