University of Kashmir - India

Professional Profiles

Early Academic Pursuits

She embarked on her academic journey with a deep-seated passion for environmental science and chemistry. She pursued her Bachelor of Science degree at Govt. College for Women, M.A. Road, Srinagar, in 2012, laying the foundation for her future endeavors. Subsequently, she delved into the realm of chemistry by completing her Master of Science at the University of Kashmir in 2014, where her fervor for research in water treatment and environmental remediation began to take shape.

Professional Endeavors

Following her academic pursuits, She ventured into the field of wastewater treatment as a researcher and educator. She commenced her journey as a Ph.D. scholar at the University of Kashmir, Department of Chemistry, in January 2019. Simultaneously, she assumed the role of Principal Investigator as a Women Scientist (WOS-A) at the University of Kashmir, Department of Chemistry, from 2022. Her dual roles reflect her dedication to advancing scientific knowledge and addressing pressing environmental challenges.

Contributions and Research Focus in Wastewater treatment

Her research is centered on the design and synthesis of innovative magnetic composites tailored for the detection and removal of contaminants from wastewater. She focuses on modifying these composites using various polymers and carbon-based materials through techniques such as ultrasonication, co-precipitation, and hydrothermal methods. Her ultimate goal is to gain a profound understanding of removal processes, adsorption mechanisms, and electrochemical phenomena at electrode-electrolyte interfaces. This knowledge will inform the development of highly efficient electrochemical devices and sensors for applications in water treatment and environmental monitoring.

Wastewater treatment is the process of removing contaminants and impurities from wastewater to make it safe for discharge back into the environment or for reuse. It is a critical component of environmental engineering and pollution control, aimed at protecting public health and preserving natural resources.

Accolades and Recognition

Her contributions to environmental science and wastewater treatment have garnered significant recognition. In February 2022, she was honored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST-GOI) as a Women Scientist (WOS-A) Principal Investigator for her project titled "Synthesis and Characterization of Some Magnetic Composites for the Abatement of Environmental Toxicants." Additionally, she received accolades from the Journal of Global Ecology and Environment for her exemplary peer reviewing efforts.

Treatment technologies employed in wastewater treatment plants include filtration, biological treatment, and chemical treatment. Filtration methods like sand filtration and membrane filtration are used to remove suspended solids and microorganisms.

Impact and Influence

Her research endeavors have the potential to make a profound impact on water purification and pollution control efforts. By developing novel materials and techniques for wastewater treatment, she aims to contribute to the preservation of environmental quality and human health. Her work has the potential to revolutionize sewage treatment processes and mitigate the adverse effects of water pollution on ecosystems and communities.

Legacy and Future Contributions

As she continues her journey as a dedicated researcher and educator, her legacy will be defined by her commitment to advancing knowledge and addressing environmental challenges. Through her innovative research, she seeks to leave a lasting impact on the field of wastewater treatment and inspire future generations of scientists to tackle pressing environmental issues. With her unwavering dedication and passion, she is poised to make significant contributions to water purification, environmental engineering, and pollution control efforts for years to come.
