Dr. Supriyo Chakraborty is a distinguished Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at Assam University, Silchar, with over two decades of teaching and research experience. He holds an MSc and PhD in Plant Breeding & Genetics from Assam Agricultural University and Dibrugarh University, respectively, and completed his Postdoctoral research at NC State University, USA, focusing on QTL mapping in plants. Dr. Chakraborty has previously served as Dean of the School of Life Sciences and Head of the Department of Biotechnology at Assam University. His early career includes a tenure as Assistant Professor cum Scientist at Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat. Dr. Chakraborty’s research interests span molecular genetics, codon usage patterns, RNA editing, microRNA-mediated gene regulation, and computational genomics. He has authored 3 books, 2 book chapters, 16 software copyrights, and over 150 peer-reviewed research articles in high-impact journals covering plant genetics, viral genomics, cancer biology, and computational biology. His work on codon usage bias, mitochondrial gene analysis, and microRNA-based gene silencing has advanced both theoretical and applied molecular biology. A prolific innovator, Dr. Chakraborty holds multiple national and international software copyrights related to genetic and protein sequence analysis. Ranjna Kaundal began her academic journey with a strong foundation in biological sciences, culminating in a Bachelor’s degree in Botany, Zoology, and Chemistry from Himachal Pradesh University. Her deep interest in plant sciences led her to pursue an M.Sc. in Botany, specializing in advanced topics in applied microbiology. These early academic explorations laid the groundwork for her transition into forestry research, where she continues to excel.

Currently a Ph.D. Scholar under CSIR-SRF at the Forest Pathology Section, Forest Research Institute (ICFRE-FRI), Dehradun, Ranjna is actively engaged in interdisciplinary research bridging microbiology and forest ecology. She has undertaken field surveys across ecologically sensitive and industrially impacted regions, contributing significantly to soil and microbial analysis for environmental rehabilitation.

Her doctoral research focuses on the bioremediation potential of plant growth-promoting microbes for solubilizing heavy metals in industrially contaminated soils. Under the guidance of Dr. Vipin Parkash, her work involves isolation and identification of AMF, rhizobacteria, and mycoflora, as well as controlled bio-inoculation experiments and soil health assessments.

Ranjna’s core expertise lies in Forest Pathology, with a research orientation centered on soil microbiology, bioremediation, and plant-microbe interactions. She is proficient in mass production of beneficial microbes, analyzing soil physicochemical properties, and utilizing advanced tools for microbial diversity studies. Her research further extends to AMF diversity in mangroves and hill bamboos, endophytic fungi, and wild macrofungi of the Garhwal Himalayas, showcasing her broad ecological interests.
