Sourav Sarkar’s academic journey began with a strong foundation in the physical sciences. He excelled in his Higher Secondary education at the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE), achieving an impressive 92.4% in 2015. This academic excellence continued through his Secondary education at the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE), where he scored 91.57% in March 2013.

Professional Endeavors

Sourav Sarkar pursued a Bachelor of Science in Physics (Honours) at Krishnagar Government College, University of Kalyani, from 2015 to 2018, achieving a commendable 65.5%. He then went on to complete his Master of Science in Physics at the University of Calcutta (Rajabazar Science College) from 2018 to 2020, specializing in Solid State Electronics and Quantum Electronics, and securing 70.8%. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Physics at the S N Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Kalyan Mandal, with a focus on Condensed Matter and Materials Physics.

Contributions and Research Focus

Sourav’s research is primarily centered around Condensed Matter Physics and Material Science. His Ph.D. thesis explores the dielectric, magnetic, and electromagnetic properties of ferrite nanostructures and intermetallic alloys. His Master’s project involved the synthesis, structural study, and magnetic data analysis of the multiferroic compound Cu2V2O7. Additionally, he has undertaken a significant project on the correlation between sensing properties and electron density of boron-rich ceramics at CSIR CGCRI under Dr. Swastik Mondal.

Accolades and Recognition

Sourav’s academic and research efforts have been recognized through several awards and scholarships. He received the Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means (SVMCM) Scholarship in class X and has been an INSPIRE scholar since 2015. His academic prowess is further demonstrated by his receipt of the DST INSPIRE Fellowship. He has consistently qualified for the GATE examination, achieving impressive ranks in 2020, 2021, and 2022, and has also qualified for the 23rd West Bengal SET and Gujarat SET 2022.

Impact and Influence

Sourav’s research has had a significant impact on the field of condensed matter physics and material science. His expertise in X-ray crystallography, transport properties of intermetallic compounds and ferrites, charge density studies of inorganic compounds, and low-temperature magnetism is noteworthy. He has practical experience with SEM, TEM, XRD, and is familiar with software such as Jana2006 and Fullprof, which he uses for Rietveld refinement.
